Members,
Sweepstakestoday.com will be going through several changes in 3 to 4 months. We are moving ST from a sever based website to the internet cloud with Microsoft. There are many reasons why we are making this change, most are related to speed, reliability and security related. Most of all this will improve the compatibility with the new Microsoft browser that will be like the Google Chrome based technology.
This leads into the future towards the much talked about 5G mobile. The future of sweeping will change in the upcoming years as well. We will see more video sweeps for example. I expect to see more security that will make hacking far more difficult. You get the idea.
The big change on the internet today is there are many sweeps you cannot enter with the Microsoft Explorer browser. You can only use Google Chrome and Firefox for these sweeps. However, this will be worse coming January 2020. Microsoft will discount updates for all the Microsoft Explorer browsers and discontinue updates for Windows 7 Operating System (OS). At some point you will need to upgrade to Windows 10.
What we will be changing very soon is we will be taking down the currently Forum. The Forum is a piece of software that we didn’t build. Over the years, the programmer/company have stop with security updates which created issues for us. The bad guys would create fake ST accounts just to create a cookie. Once they had a cookie from ST, they could then come back to ST in 6 months or longer, never enter a sweep, and then login into the Forum and post phony fake messages. The final straw for us was a hacker who created an account on ST then within 5 minutes posted 89 messages.
We are going to replace the Forum in whole. We don’t know exactly what we will be changing to, but we are looking at a forum that will be totally integrated into ST instead of a stand-alone model. We have talked about using a different domain name for creating a site for all sweepers but are leaning away from this. Be assured that we will have a better Forum than what we have now.
Last on my list is about sweeps that require “APPS” to be downloaded to receive an entry. Morally and philosophically, I am strongly against this in our hobby. We will not publish any "APPS" now or in the future. These so called “APPS” has no rules about what they do, maybe they will violate your privacy and even track your smart phone. The risks are too high no matter the size of the prize pool. “APPS” are not cookies that keep small amount of information. “APPS” are programs closer in relationship to malware programming but without the harmful effects. We have cookies on ST, and we used them in a friendly manner like in My Lucky List and in the red and green buttons showing when you entered the sweeps or not.
I am asking a favor of each of you who visit other sweeps sites. Spread the word and follow our lead. “APPS” will hurt the hobby, not help. Besides individually, “APPS” can lead to fewer sweeps because the marketing companies and sponsors will stop or slow the number of sweeps during the year. Why? Simply they will send you messages to your smart phone directly. If you don’t like spam telephone calls now, just wait for a mass of APP generated messages sent to your phone. So, ask the other sweep sites to join in on this fight.
Thank you for your time and good sweeping,
Craig McDaniel
