How long should it take to receive a big prize?

    Hi all,

My brother-in-law won the "Choice Hotels Sweepstakes $25,000".  He was told to receive his prize in 6wks from the 7/2, but nothing yet.  He emailed the prize co. on 8/29 and was told they have not recvd payment from the sponsor yet.  Does it usually take this long?  It is going on week 11 now.   When I won $50k from Sony it took 8wks for me to receive my check.  I tried to reassure him but now its gone past the time I received mine.

are you referring to the HGTV LIFE'S A JOURNEY SWEEP THAT ENDED 5/28/08? i found this from the rules, don't know if you saved all this info.

Sponsor: Choice Hotels International Services Corp., 10750 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20901 ("Sponsor"). Administrator: The TEAM Group, 184 Columbia Turnpike, Suite 204, Florham Park, NJ 07932 ("Administrator"). Sweepstakes Host: Scripps Networks, LLC d/b/a Home & Garden Television, 9721 Sherrill Boulevard, Knoxville, TN 37932 ("Sweepstakes Host"). and here is a link to the rest of the rules, maybe there is something on there to help you. http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/pac_ctnt_988/text/0,,HGTV_22056_67877,00.html. btw, may i shake both your and brother in laws hands  and hope some of your winning luck rubs off on me......

    Charlene,

Congrats to your brother! Hope he entered thru this ST community Big Smile and will give us more details when he gets the dough...

I think typically the affidavit must go through an approval process and maybe even investigation to ensure it is a valid potential recipient. Then the administrator probably vouchers the CFO/Treasurer of the sponsor and they have a glacial approval process, authorize the funds and back to the admin. On and on. Nowhere in the process is there any incentive for promptness, except that the affy must be received in a week to avoid DQ. The CFO considers anything over a Grand to be like his/her own money, so it's not surprising that months pass before they grudgingly release the funds. Actually IMNSHO that detracts slightly from the goodwill the sponsor was shooting for with the sweeps in the first place.
