    Timing of entries

I often enter sweeps at around 1 AM, or right before the sweeps ends. Anyway that could be seen as an advantage or disadvantage? I've always wondered, but I guess there's no real way to find out.

Halogen, I bow to your sweepy genius and wonder if you would like to pontificate on your answer a bit more.  What is it that makes that an advantage in your opinion?

P.S. I am not being a smart ass, as I truly respect the level of success you have acheived through your hard work and dedication to your craft.

    Re: Timing of entries

Instant wins are a numbers game. Instant win times are scattered randomly throughout the period of time a promotion is active. The number of people entering between midnight and 5 am is relatively few. Fewer competitors means better odds. However, I AM a high school dropout, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

    Re: Timing of entries

Thanks so much to both of you for your replies.  I totally understand the advantage when it comes to instant wins, have taking advantage of that advantage on occassion when suffering from insomnia or excessive work stress.  (I am an 8-5'er normally.)

I thought perhaps you were referring to sweeps in general.  I have often wondered if a person had better odds of winning a one time sweep by waiting until the middle of the entry period in contrast to entering it on the first day.  Any thoughts on this issue?

And as far as your ability to calculate odds, I don't think a high school diploma matters.  Some folks understand it and others don't.  A piece of paper is not necessarily a measure of success, only a measure of completion.

    Re: Timing of entries

Sweepstakes rules sometimes state a computer is used to generate random instant wins times. The dirty little secret is, a computer cannot be programed to be random. At some point a recognizable pattern emerges.

Thanks for sharing that tidbit of info too.  What do you think about the sweepstakes where they assign a number to each entry and then pull a winning number from the batch?  Any more likelyhood that the number drawn is going to be in the first 1000 entries vs. somewhere in the middle of the pack of entries?

I tip my hat to halogen and his wise assessment of the situation.  He is a major player that wins and wins.

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. - Dr. Seuss

When I first started doing IW I did them all shortly after midnight or at about 12:30 but have had no success. Maybe I should wait until even later. hmmmm

    Re: Timing of entries

Sorry to differ with you on this halogen; a computer can absolutely be programmed to be random. The only recognizable pattern that would emerge (if you studied it long enough) would be the randomizing matrix. Perhaps the sweepstakes computers are programmed to issue different pattern sets at predefined intervals, in which case, predicability becomes a matter of time.

I have been a member of ST for less than a month and I have won 11 instants in that time. I usually enter between 8am and 2pm CDT. So, I have to disagree with Halogen
