    Trojan horse warning

Last night while I was entering sweepstakes. I think I was going into the Gibson guitar one, I received a warning that I had been hit

by the trojan horse virus, my Mcaffee took care of it. So I don't know if it had something to do with the site or not, might beware, or

keep eyes open on this. It happened twice not sure what other sweep I was in

    Thanks Belva

Me too!!!! Was pain in the butt. I also got it from Gibson. No comments seen on Gibson sweep page from any of us so thought maybe it came from some where else. Really messed with my computer. I think it may be okay now----I hope.

    Thanks for warning.  Appreciate it.

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. - Dr. Seuss

Same here and my software took care of it though.  Funny, the "ads by google" at the top of this page has four ads for trojan virus removal....I guess they pick up on keywords and display ads they think are appropriate for the topic.  Hope your computer is o.k. kapapak.

Okay now, I have no idea what any of that stuff is, and I don't know what 'software' I have on the computer to protect myself. As stated before, I don't know much about computers except for how to make the internet 'GO', so could someone break this down for me? What is a trojan, and do you need software to stop it?

    Thanks,
    Mindy

I used freeware called AVG to capture trojans. Trojans are not nice to have  on your pc . Go to www.tucoows.com to dowload the software

what is this software though, and what is freeware? Is it something that I need, and what does it do? I mean, I know that there are viruses and stuff, but that is about it. I just thought that computers automatically had the thingy on them to block this stuff. I will check out that page later with my hubbo and see if we can't figure it out. (And er, if it's something that you can't explain, but something that I need, would you try to explain it as simply as possible, I mean, I really don't know anything about computers at all. *Remember when I tried to get autofill and what a pain in the ass that was? LOL But I got it in the end thanks to a lot of help!)

    Thanks,

    Mindy

    Re: Trojan horse warning

If your computer is not protected with a firewall and virus screening and removal software, your personal information can be stolen, but worse is that these criminals use your computer to send out hundreds of thousands of spam to other people's computers and it uses up all you available memory and will either shut down your PC for your own use, or make it so slow, it is almost unusable. Do yourself a favor and take the suggestion above and download the free virus software from AVG. It's really good with daily updates and best of all it's free.

Good luck, Mindy...Bob Barry  Green Valley, AZ

    Re: Trojan horse warning

I have all kinds of protection on my computer.  However, in 2 years on here, I have been hit twice with really bad viruses.  My son had to fix it and the first time it was so bad it took days.  i don't enter any of the ones from Seen on, or the ones you hit on the sides any more.  In fact I'm cutting back all the time.  I'm getting tired of phone calls every day for magazines and Time shares and Insurance.  I have our number on the No-call list but from entereing these contests that kind of voids that.  It gets worse all the time and the junk mail is so bad I just delete it all any more.

    Re: Trojan horse warning

I hope it doesn't hit mine. I have Windows Live OneCare which is spy ware and virus protection and really a good program. It even has a tune-up program that it does once a month and defragments. Hopefully it is good enough to fight this one off.
