    Paypal

    Hello,

I am not sure if this is related or not but I did sweeps Sun Dec 9th in the am and by the afternoon I started receiving emails from service@paypal.com with a subject of recepit for your payment to kijiji international and gumtree.com limited, thinking it was spam I ignored them until I logged onto my bank account monday afternoon and found 14 transactions through paypal, after contacting paypal and looking at paypal history I found 116 transactions on my paypal account, I have not used said paypal account since Oct 18th, so needless to say these charges were not mine or anyone else in my family.  Paypal will be able to take care of these as long as they are under $2000.   Is anyone else having these problems?  Anyone else seen these names before?

Thanks for any help you can give me

Did you contact Paypal?  If not, phone number is 402-935-2050.  Might possibly have been a scam to gain access to your Paypal account..

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. - Dr. Seuss

    Re: Paypal

Over the last month or so, I have received lots of emails from supposed PayPal in my junk mail account. I was always curious because I do have an account but the description lines sounded bogus and I just immediately delete them. I checked my account recently and there has been no activity but thanks for the warning. I had no idea you could get ripped off that way so I think I'll make a point of checking my account once a week. Thanks!

    Re: Paypal

Hi gsballance, and other sweepers! Don't know how related this is, but just wanted to put a little warning out there. On 3/23/08, I got an phishing "e-mail" from paypal, but didn't realize it right away and started to respond to it. Firefox warned of a fraudulent website! Went to paypal directlay and discovered a charge to my credit card for $179.95 that I did not make. Paypal is a reputable and secure company, so they resolved the issue with a refund to my credit card! Thank them very much

Don't even click on any e-mail from Paypal or any other reputable company that doesn't address you by name, or click a link provide by that e-mail. It is a phishing scam. these good companiew will never ask for your private information through an e-mail.

Be safe out there. This was a big scare for me and a headache as well. I am in the process of changing my passwords, closing accounts, etc. and closely monitoring all my online activity.

    Re: Paypal

If at any time you are suspicious of an email, this is what you should do.

First, make sure you are using "full headers," rather than brief headers. In some email accounts, there is a link in the bottom of the right hand corner of the page. Other email accounts, you may find "full headers" listed under "options." Click to use full headers, then look @ the email. Look at the last "received from" source. This is who really sent your email.

Also, a tool to stop these people, and to utilize to really be sure, and also provides a record if charges show up that you didn't make, IMMEDIATELY click on "forward" type abuse@paypal.com  (or wherever the email is allegedly from-if its eBay, their report link is spoof@ebay.com ) on the address line. You may include a single sentence such as "I received this email and think it is fraudulent; please advise.  Thank you."

    Hope this helps GL
