I Have been entering sweeps for almost 30 years now. My biggest win was the Geo Tracker in 2000! I won it on a fluke through a local sweeps sponsored by an aluminum recycling company called RePlanet. They offered up a game piece if you turned in a full bag of aluminum cans. The game piece either had a image of a key (37) to be given away, or said sorry try again! The sweeps was ending within three days and I had to go to a couple different recycle centers just to get a game piece. When I did find one that still had game pieces, mine said sorry try again, but at the bottom in small print it said if you want to enter the second chance drawing to mail in a 3 x 5 piece of paper w/ NAZ and day Ph#) Lucky for me (due to fact that the PO BOX that was on the sweeps entry was going to was just two towns away!) Being the eternal optimist & a sweeps addict, I just so happen to carry 3 x 5 papers & cards and envelopes. So even though I did not get a key, I thought that if I used the money I received from the cans to buy stamps then those stamps might bring me luck. So I took my stamps to my truck and filled out 5 enteries and proceeded to drive directly to the Rancho Cucamonga Post Office to deposit my entries. I thought I might get one of the 50 Dinners they where giving away! Then I thought I would drop 2 more entries the next day and hope for the best. That Saturday at 10am I get a call from a co worker who is a practical joker and has never called me before, ask me what I am doing, I say I am just rolling out of bed why what's it to you? He says, well it would be a lot less to him and more to me if he wasn't there at work on Saturday to get the phone, go into the office to look up my home phone and call me! So I say, ok where's the joke? He says, there no joke someone called work and asked if I was there! Not sure why they asked for a day Ph# if they where going to call on a Saturday! Anyway he said that they wanted to speak to me because I won a Geo Tracker! I told him he was full of @#$% and that I was going to hang up, he said no really I gave them your number and they're going to call in 5 min.. I said yea whatever and hung up! Within 2 minuets a high pitched excited female called and asked if I was the person she was calling, and I said I was, she then proceeded to notify me that I had won a Geo Tracker, I had said that she knew my co-worker and that I'm not falling for this gag! She said you don't believe you won? I said, no I don't, she put the phone to her chest and told someone from RePlanet that I did not beleive it! This gentelman got on the phone and said, so you do not beleive you won? I said no, he said, then tell me this how is someone you work with going to know you entered a second chance drawing to win a Geo Tracker, did you tell him you entered this sweeps? I said noooo, and then it hit me I had really won! He asked how soon could down to the Mills to pick up the Tracker? I said about an hour, he said, AN HOUR? We have been here for 3 hours and only 13 people claimed their keys out of 37, and none of the keys claimed would start the Tracker and that they had to pay for all the sponsors to be there. I said well I don't want to kill myself getting there, but would be there as soon as I could, about 30 to 35 minuets. I still had some doubts thinking maybe Mom or Dad was playing a joke on me, but hoped it was the real deal! When my wife & I arrived, I walked up somewhat in doubt, ok here I am, where's the camera's and the big joke? The guy from RePlanet looked at me like I was nuts handed me the keys and pushed me towards the Tracker and said, get in so we can take your picture, and I'm like so it's really mine, and he's says, YES GET IN ALREADY! I had a grin from ear to ear & my jaw was on the ground for weeks after that! I kept going out to the garage and looking at it and sitting in it! Wow What A Great Feeling!
Looking back at all the factors that had to fall into place for me to win this great prize really blows me away! This win assures me that if your meant to win you will, and the word for luck has a different meaning to me then most! To me it means when opportunity collides with tenacity and fate, then that equals my meaning of luck!
By the way I sold the Tracker for 10,000.00, it was a vehicle that tipped over easily! Bought a 9,000.00 spa for 5,000.00, put 3,000.00 in the bank, and spent 2,000.00 on food, clothes and odds and ends!
Since then I have not hade a big win, but I do believe that it can happen at any time and that I am ready to receive! ;{)=
