How ST & members Saved me....

     Hi all

Sweepstakes Today has more value & education besides just the potential excitement of winning great prizes. Although I haven't won anything in a long while- Today I won big with the information & knowledge provided by this site & it's members.

4:10 pm today- I got a phone call from a guy saying I had won a 3 day 2 night plus $1,000 from a walmart drawing- that would arrive Wednesday. At first I thought this was a possibility because I'm a St member/sweeper.  Reading the posts from other members about scam alerts, warnings, new savvy scam tactics/verbage & my experience of having 3 decent wins in the past, I knew something was not right. ( I have entered a couple of walmart sweeps from ST)

I Asked him a few key questions like " what's the information on my entry form?" He used my boyfriend's last name- Which I NEVER Have or will use on entries. He asked if I had a walmart card-  My reply " I do Not", but  he followed up by asking if I had a credit card ( This was huge red flag for me & simple common sense this is a con job)  finally I asked him " what about the affadavit?" He had No clue what the hell an affy was. This phone call had long pitch & a hint of possibly being legitimate before my questions but Thanks to all my sister & brother sweepers I was armed with knowledge & empowered with a tad of sweeps sophistication.

The moral of this lesson ;  all those who are new or just old members who don't visit the forum for the latest info... don't just read about winnings but do take the time every once in awhile to scroll down to read  or  write ( especially if there's some new scam or strategy to be alert & guard against) because it can truly help a fellow member

keep your eyes & ears open for this latest phone call scam .

Thank you ST & Especially those members who have shared stories, advice & info regarding scams/ cons.

I've been saved from a potential scammer

Oh wow, dixiemuse. . . just reading your story makes my skin crawl!  Angry  You always think that things like that don't happen to you, and then it does.  I'm so proud of the way you handled it, and so thankful you shared it with us- - -your ST family- - -so that we can be on alert.  Keep on sweeping. . . and "keep on your toes"!  Big Smile

WTG and thanks for sharing.  I hate that there are people who actually perpetrate the scams!  Disgusting and despicable.

    Thanks pgt -52, el3btrs, anjessed& snaveekram1 for your support!

Another bell that went off in my head that I forgot to mention was this con-man caller never gave his name or the promotional/marketing company he " supposedly" represented besides saying it was a " Walmart drawing".

Had I not joined ST, read posts by other members & taken up the hobby of sweeping- I would have never known the protocol for winning notifications.

The credit card question was a dead give away, but other than that I might have fallen for it. These scammers are ruthless & always sharpening their criminal edge.

Hope some of the newbies will read this, so they can be aware, educate & protect themselves. Don't want to see anyone fall prey to these scumbags.

      Again- Thank you sweeps buddies

How wonderful that your story had a happy ending instead of a sad one! But it makes me angry that after the scumbag talked to you, he just went on to the next person and on and on... You just know he found plenty of victims, and continues to prey on the unwary (and greedy). And I agree that the busy members of our sweeping family should take the time to read the forums. A few minutes might save them more than GEICO ever could... Thanks for the report, and continued good luck to you!

    Thanks Chuckmahl.

I wish I could've done more.  Don't have caller ID, but I did try to *69 in hopes that the sleazy scammer had slipped up through stupidity. Of course- this was not the case because the phone number was untraceable...  as usual with these swindlers. The 2nd best action I could take was to post an alert for the members who have educated & helped me understand how sweeping officially works & remind everyone to be on guard no matter how knowledgeable they might be.

You have a very good head on your shoulders. Anytime anyone ask about your credit cards, that is danger sign. Our credit cards have nothing to do with entering sweeps. God will watch over us in the very small ways sometimes. Thank goodness.

    Good job!

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
