    ANNOYING ADVERTISER ALERT!!

Mr. Sweepy, this is the first time I've had a complaint about ST! So here goes: You recently started advertising a Spanish-language "service" (I don't know what it is). I translate it's name to be "thermometer of love". My complaint is about the sound effects that accompany the ad - they are intrusive, loud and VERY annoying! Some times my computer's sound is already muted, so I don't get assaulted by the noise. But some times the sound isn't muted, and it bothers me to hear that irritating sound when I least expect it. I may be a curmudgeon and the only person who will complain about this ad; but I'd like to register my feelings about this anyway. Thanks for listening, Chuck.

I always put my computer on mute when entering.  That way I can hear the radio for sweeps and call in.

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

I, too, always mute when sweeping mostly because most of the stuff coming through my speakers isn't my "style" or is someone in a "sell" mode.  No, thanks.

My computer is always on mute, too, unless I temporarily enable the sound for something and forget to mute it again.  Even reasonable volume noise/music can bug me.  My tv is almost always on mute during commercials, and I will mute during shows when people too aggressively speak over each other.  Hooray for whoever invented the mute feature.  I remember that "mute" was as much a draw as being able to change channels without standing up back when remotes first appeared.  Wired to the tvs, of course....

It's too bad we can't instantly mute the new TVs.  I begrudge the fractions of seconds of unwanted racket.  So spoiled by technology. Big Smile

Dana! You sure took your time posting on this thread - I think I heard from Superman before you! LOL  Oh, that's right - I remember reading about your (in)famous sense of time... You probably think you're answering a post I'll be writing next week!  Tongue Tied  But to continue your thought about TVs and muting: I always used to mute the commercials when I was married, and my wife grudgingly went along with it for two reasons. She was usually reading magazines or talking on the phone when we were watching TV "together"; and I had the remote! (Yes - it's a Male Thing! And in my case an OCD thing, too!) OH-HO! But now that I live alone, with total control over the TV, I also have a DVR as part of my Dish HD package. HOLD THE PHONE!! Now I record all my favorite shows - even my races - and FAST FORWARD through all the commercials! Better than muting! If I accidentally catch up to live TV while watching a show, I'm bummed! HA HA! I just wish I could skip the commercial block with one click... or better yet, have the DVR not even record the commercials!! I'm so habituated to this behavior that if I watch TV at my sister's house, I mute the commercials (on live TV). AND SHE OBJECTS! She and her family "talk" over the loud commercials, fighting to be heard! I just don't understand that - but it's probably more of a deal where I'm coming into their house and "taking over" the TV... Talk about being spoiled by technology - I'll never give up watching TV and skipping the commercials! You'll have to pry the remote from my cold, dead fingers! Cheers and happy muting, Chuck. P.S. After re-reading your post, I picked up on your comment about modern muting not being instantaneous. YES! When I was married the remote would mute completely with one click - but my remote now mutes in two steps! What a dubious "improvement" - and another reason to record and fast-forward.

Again, laughing so much I upset the kitty.  Dates on posts, why would I look at those?!?  Those numbers aren't the interesting bits!  Hey, it was new to me!  Big Smile  Every time I glance up at your reply I start laughing again.

My dad now records lots of his shows before watching them, too.  Because of his age, he has extolled the splendid advantages of the DVR to me more than once.  Confused We both love that he can freeze live tv if I call him in the evening.  It truly is remarkable.
