    Anybody know Hardrives?

    For about a year now, everytime I start playing sweeps here my hardrive shows increased activity. The hardrive makes that buzzing sound for each new page  that I click. The hardrive doesnt do that when I'm not playing sweeps. Does anybody have any idea if this is a sign of  something harmful?

    Thanks, GLTA with their sweeps :}

    If it wasn't for good luck I wouldnt have no luck at all.

    Re: Anybody know Hardrives?

     there are a number of ways to back up your computer.  some require special backup programs and/or external drives.  others you can do with a cd/dvd burner.  you can also have a backup done online, with a program called Carbonite.  Too much to explain here, so i recommend that you go to www.komando.com and read the articles on backing up your computer data.  she also has a link to Carbonite backup system.  If you can find someone to take a quick look at your system, they may be able to see if there is a real problem with it, and the best way fro you to proceed.  good luck!!

    It means that every page you go to on the internet is being saved as a temporary file, this is why it is making the noise.  When you clean out your browsing history and cookies, you get rid of those temporary files.  However it is always a good idea to back up your data files on a regular basis.  I clean out my cookies and temporary files all the time.

    You can go to Wal-Mart or any where they sell this and buy an External USB drive that plugs in easily to your computer to back up your files.

    Re: Anybody know Hardrives?

    I am a computer repair tech and I agree with everything said so far.  Here are my 2-cents:

    1. Back up your system.

    2. Run a hard drive diagnostics program.  If it is a pc you can usually press and hold F8 (or repeatedly tap it) when powering up.  On most systems this will open up a screen with several choices.  Find and run a complete system diagnostics.  If the drive or fan has problems it is best to have it replaced real soon by a reputable tech.

    3. If no problem is found then the culprit could be a virus or malware.  A program I use quite often is  www.malwarebytes.com.  Download and run the free version.  Do this even if you already have a antivirus program as no program will find everthing.

    4. If you still have problems then it is likely that the root programming has been corrupted.  Take it to a tech for fixing.  (There are free programs that fix roots but they are natorious for deleting too much or not enough.)  Generally it takes experience to fix it right.  If it is really corrupted it may require a reload of the operating system.  (Don't let the tech talk you in to a complete wipe of the hard drive and re-install.  This is rarely needed and is often the last resort of a lazy tech who can't find the problem!)

    Good luck!

    Re: Anybody know Hardrives?

    Tech support always seem to look too deep. Bring up the Windows Task Manager, click Processes, double-click CPU and watch it when you enter the sweeps.  This will tell you what is causing the high usage which results in your fan working overtime. My. and many other users recently experienced this type of problem and the culprit was an incompatibility between Windows Defender and a number of third party security products.  My solution was to remove Windows Defender, problem solved. Still using my third party software and have no problems.

    Also, clean up your PC at least once a week.
