Here are a 3 good web sites which you may want to check out. Cnet & pcworld offer valuable and accurate information, reviews, safe downloads etc. regarding software programs and hardware configurations for home users. You will also find reviews on many other electronic products. I recommend adding them to "Your Favorites" list and visiting them every once & a while to see what is new.

NOTE: These sites support themselves through ads---so be aware that they promote software/hardware for sale. In most cases you don't really need these "advertised" programs--since your PC already has the ability to do most maintenance for itself. Plus there are some really good (great) FREEWARE programs available today--you may want to check these out before you decide to purchase software. Always read the Editor's reviews!

...This last site will run free performance tests on your PC system and rate it to other comparable PC's. They will also explain how to improve your systems performance. BE AWARE: they promote software (for sale) to solve your issues--it's usually not necessary.

SOFTWARE PROGRAMS: 

1)  "Advanced System Care"  is a FREE software program which will really help you clean up & optimize your PC. You can download it from download.cnet.com.

2) "TechTracker"  is a FREE software program that scans your installed software for available updates, finds them & provides a list with a safe download link. It runs in the background, can be disabled when necessary & saves a lot of time. Get it from: download.cnet.com .

I tried pcpitstop for about a month.  I worry about programs that tweak my registry, though.  Should I not worry so much?  Are these types of programs safe in the long run?

 It is good to be concerned with how some programs handle your registry. A suggestion.....there is a FREE software program called: "Advanced System Care" which works well cleaning up a number of different things on your PC. I use it regularly. You can find a review and download link and for it at:  download.cnet.com .

pcpitstop is a good site to inform you about the operation of your PC, but they also try hard to sell you tweaking programs--which in most cases you really don't need.
