An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good!'

MR. SWEEPY AND SWEEPERS.  APPARENTLY THIS WAS A SWEEPS THAT WAS BY PROCTOR AND GAMBLE BUT IT WAS A MAIL IN ONLY OR GAME CARD FROM STORE.  I MAILED IN ONE ENTRY.  There were no online entries.  Can't believe I won with one entry but I did.  Probably because not many bothered.  Well, I'll be dang!

Mimi.....just like Dixie said.....I am so glad you stuck it out, hung in there, kept on playing.......look how it paid off!!!  Good for you!!!  Congrats......I sure would have a hard time getting rid of a diamond like that, but $7000 goes a heckuva long way......

I'm a bit stressed after calling many jewlers trying to set up someone to buy.  They all want it but I feel many cons in the industry trying to get the diamand as cheap as they can. If it retails for $15,000, I am being told from 4K to 7K most wanting to give the smallest amount.   I think I will have it appraised and learn the actual wholesale price also before I commit to selling to anyone.  Do you guys think I could sell on Ebay for more?  And how safe is paypal for that amount of money?  Then I also worry about shipping to an Ebay person.

    mimireco,

I would not risk selling that on eBay. I hardly like selling anything there anymore. I would want a face to face sale.

wow!  congrats.  I would hope you can get about 50% as I heard the markup in diamonds was 100%.  Good luck!

Re: GENERAL DOLLAR GRAND PRIZE $15,000 FLAWLESS 1 carat DIAMOND

I sent in the Affidavit.  Now does anyone know how long it will take to receive the diamond? They received the Aff yesterday.  Do they just leave it at my door?  or do I sign for it? I would hope they would not just leave it at my door.

Yes I am getting 2 appraisals for my tax man..  Ironically the stores that will appraise it want to buy it also.  SO I will get it appraised and then go to those that want to buy.  I've learned there are different kind of appraisers, like the value for tax purpose and Market Value.  I have already decided I will not sell below 50% of value.  From what I am hearing If the jewelers were to buy wholesale they only get a 33% discount.  So before I sell I am going to learn about the cut, clearity, etc. so I don't sound ignorant to the diamond when I go to sell.  You should hear these jewelers and their fast talk to get the diamond cheaper.  I sure wish they had just given me a money option.  This diamond is going to be a hassle.  Too bad I am not into jewelery.  I don't even like wearing rings.  The only jewelery I wear is 2 small hoops in each pierced earlob and half the time I take them out.  Not a Diamond and Gold girl...  Hey, Maybe I should contact Phyllis Dillard to buy.  LOL

Selling Diamond can fetch you more than $7000, but the jeweler should be reputed and should have thorough knowledge of jewelry.

Re: GENERAL DOLLAR GRAND PRIZE $15,000 FLAWLESS 1 carat DIAMOND

Congratulations on your big win! That's fantastic! I just wanted to add that if you're thinking of selling your diamond, you may get more than $7000.00 - if you have it assessed by a professional jeweler. Most jewelry stores will give you about 40% of the appraised value. But I would suggest you look around some because there are jewelers who buy diamonds, estate jewelry based on the quality of diamonds, the cut, clarity, etc. They are sometimes able to offer more than what you would normally get at a jewelry shop. Fabrikant Fine Diamonds Inc in NY is a trusted name in jewelers with over four generations of experience. They buy diamonds, watches and even gold. Try getting offers from several professional jewelers and then compare their offers. That way you’ll get the best deal. Fabrikants is situated on Fifth Avenue. You can give them a call at (212) 557-4888. All the Best!
