    Tip for dial uppers

This may already be common knowledge, but it wasn't to me so I thought I would share.  I am not aware of how many dial-uppers there still are, but I know it is my only option, as I do not have a clear view of the southern sky, so satelite is out, and the only available connection for me is dial up.  But to the point, I have been searching for some option without having to subscribe to a service that would completely change my online experience......IE changing my current ISP.  In my research I stumbled upon 2 web accelerators that were not service providers, and only act as a proxy server without having to use a separate ISP.

I have been using one for two weeks now............and I LOVE IT.  The concept is just to compress data and graphics before they are sent to your computer, plus it screens out all banner ads.  I get to control the level of compression, and I can disable it at any point.  It automatically shuts down for secure sites.....https, and it has increased my speed from a constant dial up of 26.4 bps to 118 bps.  It does all it advertises and more.  I have cut my time sweeping drastically, and doesn't distort graphics as terribly as I had imagined it would.  It costs 5 bucks a month, but worth every dime.

Hope this helps someone who is stuck in the world of dial up with me.

Thanks to everyone else (especially Mr. Sweepy) for your tips, comments, and suggestions, they are all helpful and appreciated.

Best of odds and happy winnings to us all.

I picked Propel.......I found another that was comprable but can't remember the name of it LOL.......I picked this one because they had a free trial so I could check it out first.  here's the link http://www.propel.com/index_flash.html  I am hopeful that Mr Sweepy won't mind me posting it as it is not a competetor.  I found it by googling web accelerator........so you could try that and check out the other companies too.

If you try it, please let me know your results, I would love to know if others are loving it as much as I am.

I finally found something that would work at my house.  I had dial up for the last 6 years and hated it.  Satellite was too expensive and cable would cost an arm and leg to bring down to my house. I tried DSL on my regular phone and found it didn't work since my phone line coming into my house was messed up in some way. My sister-in-law told me about Alltel wireless internet.  It is just a plug in for my computer that uses a cell phone line.  It doesn't tie up my regular phone line then.  I am now entering about 10 times as many sweeps in the same amount of time. It is a little pricey...$60.00 a month, but well worth it.  Hope this helps  dial-uppers.

I was dialup for 11 years, DONE - I got an aircard.  many employers have discount programs avaiable to you for wireless intranet.  My company had two, ATT and Verizon.  Att was more $60 month, looks like a jump drive, you just plug it in.  I live in a very remote area, and the signal was poor.  After 20 days I returned it.  Went to Verizon, 1/2 the cost, only $49.99 per month, unlimited, 3G and free networks like when at a McDonalds or Starbucks, with 5K downloads for 30 days.  It has changed my life!  Just have to be careful, video streaming will eat up your time, so turn that off, and you can sweep so fast!

I use the Alltel wireless adapter that plugs into your USB port. Speed is good but I'm on my third one. It usually falls apart after a month or so. Are you using yours on a laptop or desktop? I'm using mine on my laptop. The plastic top of the usb adapter keeps coming apart.
