We're back from NJ. Really tired but glad we went, of course. Melilla is doing well. The results from the spinal tap on Wednesday were good - only 1% of cells were cancerous so she won't have to undergo another one until she's ready to leave the hospital. They were waiting until her white blood cell count was built back up to over 100. Today it was 130 - amazing considering that earlier in the week they were at 0. She will probably be in the hospital another week or so, then they'll be taking her back for outpatient treatments. Fortunately, they will be able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House during that time. Once she's able to travel, there is a possibility they will move back to Fort Meyers. There is a COG hospital there and an emergency room right across the street from where they would be staying. If she gets even a slight fever within the next 3 years, they'll have to get her to a dr ASAP.
She had a really good day on Thursday - full of energy and talking a mile a minute! She wants her Mommy there 24/7 and that is wearing down my DIL Emilie. Emilie does go over to the Ronald McDonald House for 2-3 hours a day to shower and nap but if Melilla needs to go potty, she throws a fit until Emilie gets back. She's not normally a fit-thrower, but the meds tend to make her that way.
Thank you for all your concern, prayers and support. It is going to be a long haul but we are keeping a positive outlook for a positive outcome.
Sandy
