Entering a Sweep for Second Prize

I am new to sweeping.   I wanted to know if it is a good idea to enter a sweep because I want to win a prize other than the top one.

lol, that's almost all i do is enter to win 2nd -5th prize . i don't want many trips, just a few that offers cash and in the US.  i just turned down a prize for a golf lesson because i wanted the duffle bag or the glasses.........most of my wins goes to others for gifts or if in need so smaller prizes goes a longer way.......

We"ve gone through this many times before.  If you enter for something you don't want and win, then someone that does want it hasn't got a chance because you won and now its forfeited.  Most of these sweeps wont offer it to someone else.  Mr. Sweepy even says, Only enter for things you want.

sweeps would be much better if they seperated the prizes...such as if you wanted 1st prize you enter only for 1st prize, if you wanted 2nd prize you can't enter 1st prize.........if you follow my drift.  i personally would like to enter more sweeps for 2nd or lessor prizes. i enter only the sweeps i want a prize from, but most of them is not the grand prize.

Barbara, following your logic, you better want EVERY PRIZE listed in EVERY sweeps you enter, because if you win a lesser prize that you DON'T want, you're taking it away from one of us that DO want it.

    It DOES work both ways.

As for me, I'll continue to enter any sweeps as long as there is at least one prize in the listing of prizes that I want to win.

Chudder4444,  thank you. I agree that as long as there's something on the list I want, I enter.  Most of the time it is the grand prize, but there are a few that I enter that I'm hoping for a lesser prize.

Good luck and many happy wins.

    Yes!

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. I enter as long as there is one prize I REALLY want on the list.

I've wondered if, when they call to offer you a trip to the moon, if you could say, "Really, I just longed for the iPod, can you give the trip to someone else?" if maybe they would indeed let you have the iPod instead?

Re: Entering a Sweep for Second Prize

As a matter of fact I have entered and won two different prizes and had to turn them down.  The first was a trip to Mexico that I entered and then my husband's cancer returned and he had to start chemo and we were unable to go, I explained and they said that they would give to the next person.  then like an idiot I entered a sweep without reading all the rules (even though I always click on the little box) I thought I could win for my grandchild and the rules stated that you had to have a child under 5 living in your household.  So when they sent me the papers I emailed them and explained that I am just a senile old lady and very sorry could they please pass me over and give the prize to someone who actually followed the rules and they also agreed.  So, you can turn down a prize and it be given to someone else,  what I always wanted to know is can I trade for the second place or what ever it is I really want and let the person who won the smaller prize have the larger (that made sense in my head, see I told you I'm getting senile at 51).  Hope that this doesn't upset anyone I really didn't mean to try and win something and take it away from anyone else, I really did want to go to Mexico and the other was really just a honest mistake. God Bless you all.

Re: Entering a Sweep for Second Prize

donna, your question is my question. I've never had the opportunity to test it, because the two big things I won were exactly what I wanted. The one for the TV was a First Place and I didn't want that sweep's Grand Prize AT ALL, so I guess Fate knew. But suppose I did win the GP and I wanted the FP, I've always wondered if I could ask them to Please downgrade me to FP and give the GP to the person who would otherwise be the FP winner.

Then, should they say No, my wondering about it extends to thinking maybe I could locate the lesser winner if they post the names of their winners, and offer the switch directly to the other person, who probably would want it very much. The things that run through your mind when you're sweeping, huh?

I hope I haven't hijacked the thread. I should say that, as many of us do, if there is a prize that I want, I enter the sweeps, even if I don't want the GP. I have the least expectation of hitting the GP, after all.

Accidentally winning a GP I don't want has never happened to me, so entering and daydreaming about the lesser prizes I would love to win seems like a reasonable way to have fun.
