Curious: HOW MANY OVER 60 HAVE....

Just Curious.   How many over the age of 60 have actually won a prize worth something?  Like a Grand Prize????  I'm not talking about those little (could do without) prizes.  I mean something worth over $5000 or thereabouts?

mimireco:  don't know about over 60, but I waved goodbye Stick out tongue to 50 several years ago.  Beyond that I am not admitting Wink to a thing.

And to answer your question: yes, I have won over $5,000 (Dell Sweep).  It was actually over $10,000 and kicked me into the 10K club.

I think you had another posting where age was discussed.  I believe it is illegal for sweeps to discriminate unless they specifically provided age limitations.

How long did you sweep before winning such a great prize?

Began sweeping 12/31/06 and Dell win came May 07.  I think if you look under 10K post category you will find many winning and thrilling stories just like mine.

Not sure if they disclosed (not required) or shared their ages.

The most important thing is to enter, enter, enter and the wins will arrive in due time.  Another important thing to remember is that this is a hobby.

Any age restrictions on entries must be disclosed (for example, open only to residents of Nebraska aged 18 and older by beginning date of Game Promotion). This insures that there is no perceived bias in the selection of the winner.

I've wondered that myself. I'm 65...enter all the car sweeps.

Seems that the sponsor would rather give a 450HP Mustang to a 25 year old vs. a 65 year old?

They may WANT to give the car to a 25 year old, but sweepstakes have rules and they are regulated. They have to award prizes randomly and if the rules include over 60's, you have as much chance as anyone who enters regardless of age.

This discussion makes me afraid. I am 49 1/2. They usually just ask what age group you are in. I feel comfortable putting under 50 group. But when I turn 50 I'll be scared they might discriminate against me too. Oh, well...I just have to hope not.  Cake

I am 55 and my husband is 71.  Between us we have won over $50,000 including a Mercury Mariner.  I think they would be opening themselves to big-time legal issues if they discriminated against age, unless they specifically state in the rules it is for a certain age group.

I read in Sweep Sheet that there is no such thing as age discrimination in these drawings. And this last post seems to prove it is true! Yah!

P.S. Hope everyone is signed up for WWE this week.

I have yet to see a woman win a motor cycle, tractor or something on that order.  Those that win cars are usually younger.  I am 62 soon to be 63.

Marli, I'm glad see you won such a big prize.  I have a question.  Do you remember if you won using Robo?

owilkins:  At the time I won my first big prize, I was still using dialup service (so, so slow) and entering every sweep manually on a very, very old computer.

I currently use autofill.  I have never used robo.

Thanks, marli.  That settles the matter for me. My last big win was in 2006 - a $1700. computer which I won on dial-up and doing it manually. 2 1/2 years without a big win can no longer be called a dry spell; I'm in a all out drought.  The last month I have been entering manually and only use Robo for minor sweeps. I am going to do this for a while and see if it makes a difference. By the way, I agree with some of our members on the age issues.  I just turn 60. I know it is against the law, but I have notice that most winners are either young or middle age and most tool sweeps are won by men. I checked out DIY & tool site( which I have entered for 3 years) winner's list today and all were men. Thanks for letting me vent.      Oneita

Here is a winner's list from a recent tool giveaway. Lots of women won this one.

I think these sweeps are fair. I have to think that or else I'd give up. And I can't afford to do that. :)
