    MEMORIAL DAY

Please take pause, and offer a prayer to those men and women of our Military Services, who perform their duties in harm's way, and to give a salute to all of the Military who serve our great Nation, so that we might enjoy our freedoms that we cherish.

BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO CAN GIVE WITHOUT REMEMBERING, AND TAKE WITHOUT FORGETTING.

    Jim

    Re: MEMORIAL DAY

Today is a day that should be in the hearts and minds ans prayers of EVERY AMERICAN, as we pay homage to the men and women of our Military Services. It is the day that we offer blessings and give thanks to those currently serving in our Military, but also give appreciation and gratitude to the many veterans, but mostly in memory of our fallen heroes. As the nephew of  WWI veterans, as the son of a WWII veteran, as the brother of a Korean War Purple Heart Recepient, and also another brother who volunteered for two tours in Viet Nam and myself as a Korean Veteran please take a moment fron your holiday festivities and remember, It is BECAUSE OF THEM we have the freedoms to go about our daily pursuits.

Thanks Jim, for putting it so elequently, as you always do.  I just lost my father to leukemia, who was a WWII Vet.  I cried all the way to the cemetary because every police officer that was doing traffic control knew that he was a vet and had their hands over their hearts.  When the Coast Guard color guard played taps and folded the flag for my mother they were also in tears, as I am wriitng this.  My father was extremely proud of his service to his country and passed that pride on to both my brothers (Navy), and I have a nephew that is a Major in the Air Force.  I give thanks to  all who have served and my prayers go out to all the families, young and old that have lost their loved ones in the line of duty to our great country!  God Bless.   Vickie

    Salvackie ,

So sorry to hear of your loss , I too just lost my papa on Mothers Day from cancer. He was a marine in WWll . I ended up with the flag because the only other person who was able to already has one from retiring from the Airforce . It was a proud time , it is a proud time . Thanks to them ( Service people ) we are free , and I give thanks everyday for the things I have and can be able to do .

Sacred, sorry for your loss also.  I read the forums but haven't had much time to post much.  Guess we just have to keep the faith and know our dads and papas are in a beter place and not suffering anymore.  Vickie

    Re: MEMORIAL DAY

Salvickie, I too am saddened to hear of the loss of your father, but like your Father, take heart in this great country. Your Mother's tears, and yours as well, I'm sure are in memory of the man who was there, to be called a husband,  or a father, but more so as a friend, who could put an arm around you and make the hurt go away, who could bring a smile or a laugh, who gave a helping hand, who could probably be twisted around the little finger of "his girls", But his most memorable contribution was that he instilled the sense of family values. To your brothers and nephew my most sincere thank yous. And to you, GOD BLESS.

Sacred, hopefully, words written, can offer a small measure of comfort. I lost my father many years ago and my Mother a few years ago, and I have pictures of them in frames and in albums, but they appear faded and worn, but now even as I write this, the ones in my heart are clear, bright and the colors are as sharp as life. May the pictures within your heart of your Dad, forever be bright.

    Re: MEMORIAL DAY

My heart goes out to all who have members serving in the military.  Waiting and praying for their safe return can be lonely.  My nephews are currently serving in Iraq.  One is a medic and one does something with tanks; both dangerous positions.  This is their third tour.

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day. ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

My flag was flying high today, as it does everyday.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart, all you vets and those currently serving.  My prayers are with you all, and my appreciation is deep!

    Re: MEMORIAL DAY

Thanks for all your kind words.  I cried again when I read them.  Funny, I have never been much of a crier until lately!  LTM-My Dad always said that "I always wnted a little girl and when I finally got one I didn't know what to do with her!"  My Mom would always say "But she always knew what to do with you -you've always been wrapped right around her little finger!"   You must have a daughter or daughers!  Anywy - thanks again for also putting a smile on my face.  Vickie
