I thank you  Mr. Sweepy for a great site the best I've seen to date but with all thats been happening in the past few weeks I think you should rethink how you screen these sites.  Maybe its not working anymore and you might just start losing some of your  members.  I know if I get hit one more time I won't be coming back to this site.  Like I said I love this site and you are the best Mr. Sweepy but I take the Security of my computer and its contents very seriously .  GLTA

While entering Burger King sweep, screen switched to items for sale on ebay.  What is going on?

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

mikeethan sent you a PM about your problem

I have yet to have a virus from sweeping, but I have extensive protection, 1 hardware firewall, 2 software firewalls, virus, spyware protections.  However they rarly detect anything.  Also FF has a popup blocker and I run ABP(adblock plus) plugin for FF, and those 2 together probably end about 95% of the junk right there.  I visited pages I knew were infected and the only virus I've had in the past 5 years was because I was in a rush and downloaded a rar program from a bad site without looking closely at the site.

I also have gotten hit with viruses on the Gibson site. Something about it isnt safe I think. Its not worth all the trouble of getting a virus just to go to Gibsons site. Something is seriously wrong with it.

If it wasn't for good luck I wouldnt have no luck at all.

    Re: Trojan horse warning

The Trojan horse thing is really making its rounds, my sister told be she got hit on her blue mountain card site last week, I also got hit again last week, (comcast took care of it)  when I believe it was the Big south sweep. So I am leaving that one alone.

I disagree with those that feel the Trojan is coming from Sweepstakes Today, I have visited and continue to visit the mentioned sites without any problems. The only protection on my computer is what is provided by BellSouth (AT&T).

    Re: Trojan horse warning

No matter what any company say's it is absolutley IMPOSSIBLE to have 100% protection 100% of the time from virus' and malware.  Just when you think you have it licked some computer nerd comes up with a new virus or finds a new problem to exploit. It is really a game between the programmers and the hackers and the hackers are generally better at it!

Pretty much every business with internet access has programs set to screen info coming in to them and going out but they still get hit.  (I'm sure Mr. Sweepy is no exception.)   Once this garabage gets into a program it can take a while to find it and then get rid of it.  (The antivirus programers have to become aware of the new virus then create a solution and this takes time.)  Meanwhile it gets sent on to thousands and continues to spread from there.  The trojans are among the worse because they hide inside other programs (just like those tricky Greeks!) and can slip by the antivirus software undetected.  Once on your computer they are activated and cause problems ranging from mildly annoying to catastrophic!  Some are able to access your address book and send themselves to everyone in it and share the "love".

Spy-ware can be loaded on your computer and you won't even know it.  The more mundane simply report your surfing habits back to the originator so they can figure out what to market to you.  The bad ones can steal your personal info (whatever you have ever loaded in your computer: passwords, account numbers, SSN's, tax returns, etc.) and use it or sell it.  Spyware is comparitvely easy to get rid of.  Other then running and updating your malware program an important step is to frequently clean out your internet browser history and cookies.

All you can do is have a quality anti-virus/anti-malware program that is updated daily and running.  It is also vital you have the firewall set to screen all incoming data.

Finally, don't blame Mr. Sweepy...they take appropriate precautions but again it is impossible to be 100% protected 100% of the time.  We have to do our part and remain vigilent.

I had gotten this I had though it was some site that my son had gone to. Now that I see all these notes I think I owe my son a big  apology.

I have several anitvirus software avg and Spybot just got a new one called Malwarebytes it took care of the Trojan and I do a scan every night it takes an hour to do so it I run it when I am done for the night. I do not recall what site it was on but the Microsoft security thing came up and I knew right away something was wrong.I figured it had been there for a while and the new year it woke up.

    Good luck to all

    you get what you give

Hey I got Trojan horse too. It was like 3 of them. Wasn't sure where it came from.   My computer Quarentined the virus except it said 2 were only partially Quarentined.  I had my Tech come and get rid of it.  I thought I was protected with all the stuff I have on this computer but I guess that stuff can find a way through.  I sort of thought it was from an email.
