are the local car dealers scamming when it says you have the winning number

I get these at least once a month and have never gone to the dealer to see if it is BS. I assume it is some lengthy sales pitch and test drive but the materials don't say that. They say if the winning number is 17796 then you are guaranteed to win one of 4 or 5 prizes. I always have the winning number or scratch off GRAND PRIZE winner but there is no fine print.

Has anyone actually won something from direct mail local sweeps from local car dealers? I'm in Central PA and I get them once a month.

    Thanks.

My husband and I took one of these "scratch offs" to a local dealer and the catch was that we had to be approved to purchase a vehicle AKA - have our credit run - before they could tell us if we had a winning code. And we had to shake off a very annoying and tenacious salesman. (I think he may have been hanging onto the bumper as we drove away! LOL) Unfortunately it was a waste of time and actually pretty deceptive.

Shelly77,  In what part of the country do you reside?  Call your Better Business Bureau.  If it's not in the fine print then it's a scam.

I'm in Florida. This happened about two years ago. I don't know the exact details but I remember hearing something on the news recently about dealerships changing the wording on these promotions now to cover their butts. Probably because people complained to the BBB like I should have :-)
