Odds of winning with generic codes and email sign-ups

Mr. Sweepy et. al.  Some sweeps provide a generic code to use in a sweep, which I primarily use for every entry.  Some or all sweeps have checkboxes to sign up for various emails and newlsetters.  Do you feel that always using a generic code (not buying a product to get a code) and/or NOT signing up for mailings, adversly affects the odds of winning?

In other words, do you think that the software used to record entries is set to NOT pick winners who only use a provided code?  Or do you think the software is set up NOT to pick winners of those who do not sign up for emails?

Thanks all.  Still waiting for that "over 10K" win...or I will even take "over 5k win" ...smille....

et al responding:  random picks do not have exclusions either in provided codes or those who do not sign up for emails/newsletter.

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

I don't think it makes any difference.

    (1) Me, too.  I win with the free codes.  Won a couple that way just this past week, as a matter of fact.

Exception: There is a sweeps that makes you produce the product wrapper with the UPC code if you are the winner.  People post reminders in Comments for that one.   That doesn't seem legal since you are not supposed to have to buy to win, but there it is.

    (2) There is no need to accept e-mail out of fear of not receiving a winning notice.  If the win notice is to be made by e-mail, you will still get it. Again, this is personal experience talking.

Exception:  Once in a blue moon you DO have to accept e-mail to guarantee that you will get the winning notice, but they make such a big deal of it that you won't miss those rare few.  When I went to opt out of the first e-mail I received, I got a message that said, "Are you SURE you want to opt out?? You won't get a winning notice if you do win." This was years ago.

Re: Odds of winning with generic codes and email sign-ups

Hi Climes, I have not seen anything that are different with a provided or product code.  I have wondered a little when a sponsor see a thousand of the same UPC code when there are many products that could qualify. I think this is one reason why you see fewer required UPC codes than 3 or more years ago.

In regards to software, anything that can be recorded into a database can be tagged. However I do not believe any administrator or sponsor would be stupid to try this.  First, it would be against the law. 2nd, they would open themself up to a class action lawsuit if it was discovered.

     Thanks for the question,

    Mr. Sweepy

Thanks everyone.  Good to hear there are wins regardelss of entry codes and even if opting out of emails and such.  Also good to hear Mr. Sweepy that legalities would keep companies from being tempted to do so.  Happy winning everyone.
