Feel like I'm taking food off Mr Sweepys table

When the eprize sweeps send back emails after the 1st entry, must you use them, or can you stay on the Sweepy Site?

What about little debbie must I go off Sweepy to do?

What about the 4 new ones?  $12,500 All, Cooking, whoever the others are they send email then I end up doing them off Sweepy.

When I do them off Sweepy is when they get forgotten or it'll a 25hr or whatever.

Re: Feel like I'm taking food off Mr Sweepys table

I understand your question.  There are a very few that I will enter via the e-mails that the sponsors send.  I find that it is almost always better to come back here to enter, though, so the red blocks turn green and I have an easily accessible record of what date and time I entered various sweeps. As you say, it is especially easy to enter the 24-hour sweeps from the Lucky List because the time is tracked for you.

The CompUSA and Tiger ones I sometimes enter from my e-mail because there is that second e-mail that they send to complete the entry.

The $12,500 ones I personally only entered once because after paying the taxes on $25,000, there won't be that much left of the $12,500.  You have to pay the taxes on the $12,500 that goes to the charity as well as the $12,500 that goes to you.  Granted, you still come out ahead financially.  Anyway, because I don't enter those, I have no idea if there is anything special about them that makes them easier to enter from e-mail.

I almost always check the blocks NOT to receive mail from the sponsors when they provide that option.

Re: Feel like I'm taking food off Mr Sweepys table

Forgot to say, I always enter the Little Debbie sweeps from here.  Is there some particular reason you ask about those?

I won my big 2009 grand prize from Little Debbie, and every entry was made from my Lucky List.

So, no, you don't need to enter from the e-mails unless you want to.

If you pay taxes on the charity gift of $12,500, you better be filing a standard 1040.  There is an immediate offset by claiming  the gift to charity as a deduction.  Therefore your actual tax on the winnings is only on the $12,500 that came to you, not the total $25K.

I also think that by entering through the Lucky List that we increase the traffic/hit count for Mr Sweepy.  These are numbers he shows to market this site to advertisers - his income streams.

Great to know about the deduction, snaveekram, although I don't itemize. Thanks.

I thought there should be a way to not pay taxes on something that you are not allowed to receive, but the Rules said the winner would have to pay on the full amount.  Guess they were just advising on the worst case scenario, or maybe tired of people sending them questions about the tax consequences from similar sweeps last year.

Re: Feel like I'm taking food off Mr Sweepys table

I think the $12500 should exceed the standard deduction, so itemize if you hit it big!  Even if just for that one time/year.  Giving it to a charity through a sweep is no different than giving it to, say, Goodwill from your checking account.  When you win, I'll designate myself as a charity so you can send the donation to me (LOL)!

Ha!  I think I remember that you had to chose from their list of preselected charities.  Hmmm, maybe others have had your idea!  But that is helpful advice about someone like me being able to itemize for the one year due to such a big win. If I had time and energy for more sweeps, I would reconsider entering these.

Re: Feel like I'm taking food off Mr Sweepys table

Let me clear up a point about ePrize.  Early this year, I stopped using ePrize links for their sweeps.  I will ONLY USE the sponsor's link for sweeps that are administrated by ePrize. I will not say why direct on the forum but I do have reasons.  If I can not get the sponsor's link, I don't run the sweep. PERIOD.

I have caught some grief by some members who ask why I didn't run this or that ePrize sweep.  Again, my reasons are valid.  Last point, since I made this change, our veteran members have won more instant win prizes from ePrize.

I don't completely understand your question ChelZac but I hope this helps.

Thanks, Mr. Sweepy. I have been enjoying my own share of those instant wins with the sponsor links.

Have you also noticed GP wins from those sponsor links, or is it still to early to tell about that?

Re: Feel like I'm taking food off Mr Sweepys table

Lindigo, I never had a issue with ePrize and Sweepstakes GP wins or with wins from Newbies on ST.  Only the veteran sweepers and ePrize IW's. This issue has been cleared in my mind since I made the change.

Re: Feel like I'm taking food off Mr Sweepys table

    Mr. Sweepy,

Something I've noticed on those sweeps is that when the sponsers link goes down or changes for some reason (or if they're are just too many steps to go through to get directly to form), someone will post the direct link to the entry form in the forum under the sweep listed.

My point is that when they do that, aren't they just negating what you are trying to do when you have it going through the Sponsers link?

That by doing it that way, their entry would be coming from ST website instead of sponser website?

    Thanks

    Cindy
