 there are a few sweeps that require you to click on an additional link to enter, such as 'sonoco', and 'tiger direct'.  anybody know the reason for this??

No, but the Tiger Dircect sweep is irritating, in that you then get an email and have to open the link from the email. 

 I always figured it was an attempt to get you into the habit of opening their emails so you would continue to open them after the sweeps was over, but maybe I'm overly cynical.  Whatever, it is a pain. 

Also, I don't like having to leave ST to enter my e-mail to fetch a free code, copy it, and then come back to the entry form, when I know they could just make one pop up by clicking a link directly on their entry form.  Still, that's better than having to mail away for a code so I try not to be too bugged.

I thought it was to keep people from  using automated systems to enter???

I'm sure that is the reason, to make sure it's not automated entry.

Weird thing just happened to me. I just got two of those from Circuit City today, one has Saturday's date and the other Sunday's. But I just got them today. I confirmed them both, so maybe I will be in the next drawing, who knows? I do three of these, and only once this week did I get confirmations from all three. 

they are verifing your e-mail address

 That makes sense, but they shouldn't have to do it every time, just once.
