When entering sweeps are you required to use your given first name or can you enter with your nickname?  William/Bill  Robert/Bob etc.

I always wondered if there would be any problems if you won a big prize under your nickname and not legal first name.

 My name is Marianna but my nick name is much easier to type.

My legal first name is "Evelyn", but I always enter under "Evie"....that way if I get something in the mail or Fed ex and it's addressed to "Evie",  I know it's from sweepstakes entering.  And I have had to fill out an affidavit or two, and then I use either the legal or nickname, and no one's turned me down yet!!  So use the one easiest to type, that's what I do!!  Best wishes for more "gold in the future".   Evie

I always use my legal name.  But to your point, I'd think that as long as it is a name you use, it would be okay.  If you win a prize where a 1099 would be generated, you'll have to provide enough info so as to be found in the IRS vaults for taxation purposes. And you'll have to file the 1099 and associated documents with your annual gift to Uncle Sam.
