 My burning question to all you fellow sweepers out there is:

 What do you say when people tell you that you're crazy/wasting your time or just in general try to discourage you from entering sweeps? 

I get this a lot from my mom & boyfriend. I need some new clever responses! Plus I don't have any friends who enjoy this hobby, so I don't have anyone to talk to about these things!

but then I remember that thier are people all around me

that feel I am wasting my time. In true spirit of the hobby, who cares what others think..

just remember eveytime you get a win, just smile and do it again!

After a few substancial wins no one says anything to me anymore!LOL

Hey, Alexandra! The first thing I would tell them is: MYOB! Second thing: when I win a new car, don't ask to borrow it! Third: when I win a nice vacation, I'll find SOMEBODY to take with me... Fourth: MY hobby is free - how much do you spend on yours? Fifth: I'm meeting some real nice people on ST! Sixth: I know I haven't won anything big yet - but you just wait! Seventh: I don't rain on your parade - please don't rain on mine! You'll find that we are a great bunch of sweepers on ST; and once you start winning, the naysayers will come around right quick!  Whatever their hobby is do this. Example your mom hobby, growing flowers in her garden. Tell her you think she is just wasting her time messing with those flowers, all the do is die not long after the bloom, that is just a waste of time and energy. Don't have to be mean or rude about it but just use it as a point. She likes to grow flowers and gets a satisfaction from it, you enter sweep and you get satisfaction from it. Its a hobby that you enjoy

 You are not the only one that goes through the saying,( you are just wasting your time).   I use to hear that quite often until I won some major prizes then they would say to me will you enter my name and my reply was is your hand broke, enter your own sweepstakes.  But just think of it this way if everyone that is saying that we are wasting our time was entering sweepstakes then it would cut our wins a way down.  My close friends know that I win and I have carried them on free trips that I have won and they encourage me and call me and ask what have you won lately.  Just think of it that the ones that are trying to discourage you are not entering and they are not your competion in sweepstakes.  I really like the responses that you are getting on this they are all good and Chuck as usual always has good answers.

My friends and family have told me I was crazy for stopping this hobby.  Perhaps they were right, as I am now trying to get back into it.

I totally agree with the above answers.  At first they all think my sweeps are a hoax of some kind.  Even the people at the bank when I bring in affys to be notarized, act like it is a scam. Then when I got some really nice things (bigscreen TV, trip,etc) they  start asking.  I guess it will take a couple nice wins for your friends, etc.  to come around.  I just tell them it is like going to the casino and playing with the house's money., as our hobby  doesn't cost a dime.

"It took this for you to see the real ME?!?!"  "I know I'm nuts.  I'm just giving you confirmation!" 

But I cut up w/others and don't mind pointing the finger at myself.  Once you take away their weapon by claiming it as your own, they have nothing left to say!

I have the opposite reaction from my husband. He loves my hobby. 

After you start winning some t-shirts, caps, candy, gift cards, you won't be hearing that anymore. Just hang in there and the wins will come. 

At first my boyfriend thought I was crazy and wasting my time until a $1,000 check came in and saved the house...now he say's..."don't you have some sweepstakes to enter?" when I'm not on my computer...LOL

I told people at the office where I was going. (Orlando, Love and Theft sweeps). I now have about 4 people from the office doing it and I am teaching them as I go. Hubby is cool now too.

Just show 'em the money...
