 Yesterday UPS delivered the$10,000 that I won from Proximo Spirits 1800 Man Cave Promotion.The bank couldn't believe that I won that type of prize and put a 10 day hold on the check.  They said they have seen people get their finances messed up with fake checks. This is not the first ePrize check that I have cashed at my bank. I got a check for $1960.00 to help with taxes on the Man Cave that I won from Sears. The value on that stuff eventually came to around $15,000. The problem is I won it last year but didnt get the merchandise until this year...now I have to file 1099 totaling over $25,000 on my taxes for January 2010.It might be higer if I keep winning!

Wow Census!  Fantastic!   I have to admit that there is a little sense of humor on holding the check.  However banks do have that privilege.  But I would ask that give you the interest credit at the money market rates once it clears for the 10 days.

Nice!  A good tax person shuld be able to help "ease" the pain.  While it ain't $25K, I have devalued my $2700 win by almost 30% for tax purposes when the time comes.  Maybe you could put some of the cash into a tax deferred plan, IRA or education account.  Just a thought (of course, I'd just spend it![lol]).

Hey, census, WOO HOO on your big windfall.   My bank has put a hold on checks FAR smaller than yours... Why are you so LUCKY with "Man Cave" sweeps? And at least with cash, you'll be able to cover your tax burden without trying to sell something on E-bay! That being said - I agree that it would be wise to see a tax professional in your case. I hardly need to wish you more luck since you seem to do PRETTY well for yourself at sweeping, but I will anyway - GSTY!

 You sure are lucky with "man Cave" wins LOL!  It is funny when we win something nice and the bank tries to "protect" us from ourselves.  They tried to talk me out of sending an affy back.  I think because I am a senior and they thought a poor old lady was being scammed.  LOL!  Enjoy your wonderful win!  I will not bother to enter any more Man Cave sweeps since I just assume you will be winning it!  HA!   congratulations!!

Congrats on all of your wins!!!!!! You can prepay some of the taxes so its not a hardship at tax time.
