    MY T.P. IS SHRINKING!

Sorry to post this here.  If you use quilted northern toilet tissue, please call up Georgia Pacific and complain about the shorter rolls.  I noticed a little bit ago that the toilet paper roll looked shorter and that I was staring at more of the ugly toilet paper roll holder.  I called up to inquire and they said that they were trying to cut costs somewhere so they decided to take a half inch off the roll.  I told them I did not like it and that I would gladly pay the little bit extra for the normal size toilet paper.  After all, everyone else just keeps raising their prices on everything else. They said they would pass that info on to their consumer affairs department. If they did it once, they might do it again; and isn't that infringing on some hygiene issue.  If you don't use quilted northern and you think it doesn't affect you, think again... once one does it and gets away with it, they all follow suit.  Look at all our ice creams - first the half gallon, then the 1.75 quarts, now the 1.5 quart size and they're all making them smaller now and they keep raising the prices on top of that. Sorry, I just had to vent and I wanted to post this where a few thousand people might read it and complain.

I had to admit, I laughed when I first read the title of your post.  But I agree, companies are little by little making their product smaller but charging the same price.  Another thing to look at with toilet paper is Cottonelle.  They sell 3 different colored packages that are all "double roll".  They all cost the same price.  Take a look at the 12 roll packs and you'll see that each pack has a different amount of square footage per roll.  So I always go for the one that has the most square footage.  And of course wait till it's on sale and use a coupon Wink

I have to agree with both of you.  My dog food bag has shrunk over the past several years from 25 lbs. to 17.5 lbs. and increased in price by over $3.00 per bag.  Thank you Purina!

    Re: MY T.P. IS SHRINKING!

Hey, Kimberly - I've got another one for you! People don't seem to realize this, but if you buy gasoline with a percentage of ethanol in it - your mileage suffers! In many parts of the country, including mine, ALL gas has ethanol in it. You don't even have a choice any more! I have always kept track of my mileage - accurately! - and it went down about 12% when I couldn't buy gas without ethanol. But here's the kicker - ethanol increases the octane rating of regular-grade gas to the level of mid-grade gas! So if your vehicle requires mid-grade or premium-grade gas, you can actually save money by buying a lower grade of gas - without hurting your vehicle in any way. Whether that makes up for the loss in mileage depends on the price spread between the grades of gas. P.S. - I noticed when Breyers ice cream was downsized, and they tried to make it seem like a good thing for the consumer!? We all should keep our eyes open for these things. GSTY!

My packaging pet  peave is the half gallons of ice cream that have shrunk.  Yeah, they don't lie and they do say it is less then a half gallon, but they do make the packaging so it looks like a half gallon.  Higher ridge under the bottom edge, same width but not as deep, oval shapes that take the volume off the ends, etc.

    AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

    Kimberly,

Thank you for starting this thread and venting.

I just got off the floor laughing myself silly.

THANK YOU FOR THIS SMILE I AM WEARING RIGHT NOW, IT FEELS GOOD!!!!!

Seriously, I agree with you and all the others that have made comments already.  I hadn't noticed the toilet paper shrinkage...YET...but had noticed most of the others mentioned.  And I agree with you that the consumer needs to let the Product Makers (GP, P & G, ect.) know how they feel.

Billrentz, you are soooooooooo funnnny!  I loved what you wrote too.

    Re: MY T.P. IS SHRINKING!

It is actually all legit and true :) a little while back MANY companies, instead of raising prices, made their products just a tiny bit smaller. This way it was the same cost....but less product. Most people dont seem to notice. I recall reading about ice cream being a big one too for doing this.

    Re: MY T.P. IS SHRINKING!

All the companies have to decrease amounts we get in such sly ways... that way after decreasing amounts and increasing prices, we actually think we are getting something when they claim 20% more for same low price.

    Re: MY T.P. IS SHRINKING!

Ha Ha Ha!  Oh my goodness, I really needed that laugh....that was great.  When I first started reading it I was thinking, "half an inch?"  HALF AN INCH???  How the heck can she tell when only half an inch of her toilet paper is missing??!!  Hee hee, then I realized you must mean the width of the roll itself is half an inch narrower.  That was hilarious.  Gheez, those cheapo's.  That reminded me of the other day when my daughter came into the living room with a bag of potato chips that she had just opened. She said she didn't eat any and closed the bag back up and told me I should take the bag back to the store because they only filled it half full.  lol. I realize that the air in the bag protects the chips from breaking, but they could put a few more in there.

If you can DREAM it, you can DO it.

    Re: MY T.P. IS SHRINKING!

First, these posts made me laugh when I realized the discussion was about T.P.  Then, I realized the discussion was very serious.  We as consumers are constantly being cheated.  I would suggest a strike, but then I would have to do without my T.P.  What a sad situation!

    May your stuffing be tasty
    May your turkey be plump,
    May your potatoes and gravy
    Have nary a lump.
    May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
    And may your Thanksgiving dinner
    Stay off your thighs! LOL

    Re: MY T.P. IS SHRINKING!

Marli - we could boycott TP makers, but then we'd have to find something else to use. Paper towels wouldn't do - they're made by the same companies who make TP! Restaurant napkins would work... but then restaurants would have to watch for patrons stealing napkins AND silverware! The old Farmers Almanac could make a comeback; used to be everybody had one, but now most people don't even know what it is any more. Then of course there is the Sears (-Roebuck) catalog. Who even gets them these days, with online shopping? Some of the family hasn't even heard of Roebuck - lol ! Disposable items aren't the answer I'd guess. Maybe we'd have to use wash rags, and wash them after each use... Wow - a lot to think about! I guess we'll just have to go along to get along. A half-inch here, an ounce there... Crying

Well at least we have indoor plumbing now.  Them outhouses were awful!!!  Yea they are going to get us one way or another!  The airlines with all their extras, The hotels with resort tax for towels! Really.  I remember Motel 6 for $6 and something and Super 8 for $8.88 I think it was.  Now they are all owned by middle Easterns, the hotels are all filthy, and they don't care.  All the gas stations are also owned by them.  What better way for terroism than to have a gas station to blow up and a hotel to store your guns and crap! Life is really getting bad.
