First congrats. Awesome trip, I won a trip to Orlando too for Love and Theft, going next week.

Second, when I fly I always buy a water bottle after you get through security (if before they will take it and throw it away), it has come in handy so many times. You never know when they are going to hold you up on the runway and you need a drink. I also take a few snacks. They don't feed you anymore. I usually either eat before getting on the plane or during my connection or both depending on how long it takes. I just eat in the airport. Not too much higher in price anymore, it used to be really pricy. Also anything liquid (lotion, makeup, etc...) all needs to be in a ziploc bag quart size. You take it out separate and put it through security. I even put in lip gloss etc...

Hey, Mom - very nice that you get to go on your first vacation! I hear that flying can be a hassle - but if you've never had a vacation, it should be well worth it! Have a GREAT time, and come back to sweep some more - and win some more! GSTY!

Congrats!  I've never been to Miami before.....I hope you have sooooo much fun!  I am always nervous when I fly.  But I have to admit, the takeoff is so cool.  It's the landing I get a little nervous about.  But it sounds like everyone has given some good advice.  I always bring gum, and something really good to read.  I try to get a window seat too.....I like to look outside and below :)  You'll have a great time!!!!!

Oh wow!!! do what my husband did and take something to calm your nerves and just close your eyes on the flight...lol. Congratulations!!! You have won my holy grail....i've been trying to win this family of mine a trip!!

What a great win! I hope you have a wonderful time! I won a trip to Scotland (thanks to Mr. Sweepy), and it was about 10 hours of flying (which I LOVED!)  My best advice for first time flyers: Take Dramamine with you just in case. It will settle your stomach (if you need it) and make you a little drowsy, so if you want to sleep, you can. When is the trip?

Congrats on your vacation/trip win! Sounds like your overdue.

You'll do just fine & really enjoy yourself. (Though you'll probably need to save up some extra money for additional expenses.) Since you haven't trraveled before, google/search for questions you have and you should find a wealth of answers and suggestions.

 Congratulations!  I'm so glad you won a prize that will allow you to do something fun that you've never done before.  I've flown many times, and there's nothing to be afraid of.  Safer than driving in a car!  I've never been to Miami before, but I'm sure it'll be really nice weather this time of year.  I was in Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago during January, and I was only a little chilly wearing short sleeves.  Have a great time and enjoy yourself!

 Congrats!   I think we won the same contest. There were 10 trip prizes and I am going to Miami for the same concert!  Should be fun. :)

Thats super cool. I am pretty sure we are all staying in the same motel so sure we will run into each other! Will be nice to actually meet another st member!

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful advice, its really helpful and making me feel not so nervous.

I should be getting all my flight details tomorrow ( from what the sponser said, who was super nice over the phone) and that they would be sending a check for us to either rent a car, get a taxi, or however we want to travel when we get down there, so I have been looking at my options.

I'm still so super excited to have won, and it still feels so unreal! Cant wait to actually take the trip ( and to land the plane safely, lol).
