I got my first affy through Fedex yesterday ( and I wasnt home to get in, lol) but I won a 3 day 2 night trip to Miami, FL to attend the Heineken Red Star Soul Sweepstakes. Includes round trip plane tickets, motel, etc... I am so happy and thankful! My only worry is that I have never flown ( and never got to take a vacation) so I'm nervous about getting on a plane to visit Flordia. Anyone have any PLANE tips for a first time flier?

I want to thank GOD and the family here for all the support, and the never give up attitude. I couldnt have done it without you and my wonderful family. For this being my first year sweeping I have won some awesome prizes ( xbox 360, Mac Book Air laptop, and now this) I feel just blessed!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! What a SUPER NICE WIN!!!! I'm so jealous!! I love Florida. The first time I flew back in 1998, we went to Florida. I was soooo nervous but made it thru. In fact I love flying now. Just relax and you'll do just fine. I think the hard part for first time flyers is the take off. Once you're  in the air, its smooth sailing. Also I chew some gum before we take off to keep my ears open (LOL).

I'm a newbie too. Just started sweeping a few months ago. I've only had 4 small but happy wins. For this to be your first year you are doing sooo good!!!  What a blessing! God is good  You are going to have so much fun in the sunshine state!

Congratulations! Good to hear of someone who could really use a prize winning one. I've never been on a plane either but I'd think a little drinky drinky before hand would be good for the nerves.

 Woo hoo!  I hadn't been on a plane in decades before I won my trip to Florida.    It was so much fun!  I think you will love flying.  It is a wonderful experience.  I even love taking off and landing, watching the enormous changes in scale of size.   Try to get a window seat! 

Wear comfy cotton clothes.  You can ask for a pillow or blanket.  You might want to let the flight attendant know it is your first flight.  You'll probably get a little extra attention.

Hey Mom, Cool trip prize!  Party up girl!   For the airplane, just keep a smile on your face and you will be ok. Just tell everyone you meet about Mr. Sweepy on the plane.  Never fails, people's mouth will drop when you tell them how much you won in such a short time.

 I am glad to see your enthusiasm for this trip!  As a lifelong flyer, all I can say is that flying is the best part of your trip......getting through the security lines is the most frustrating part of the whole experience.  get to the airport early enough - check with your carrier.  Also they are now nickel-and-dimeing you for baggage, goodseats, etc., so be prepared for charges that you probably don't expect.

Like others have said, the process of getting on the plane is the worse part, security, baggage check, etc. Give yourself PLENTY of time and make sure to have your ID at all check points. You may have to pay to check your luggage, depending on the airlines.  Beth

Congratulations from1mom2another !!!!!  I wish I could give you a tip about flying but I'm not the one to give you any advice. If I don't have to fly I won't,  " but if I had to do it again  I would "  I'd rather sit on an Amtrack train in my own small cabin then fly.  I did have to fly to Florida this passed January to say goodbye to my Mom, and the whole trip I was thinking of my Mom's passing that it distracted any fears I might of had from flying.  So all you have to do is keep your mind busy and think about your trip and how much FUN your going to have.  Plus I have too many children to take a trip by plane. We normally drive to our destination.  HAVE FUN !!!!!  kick up your feet and enjoy your trip !!!!!!  (From 1 mom to another)  Us Moms need a break every so often !!!!!  LOL

 Congratulations on your great win and I know you will have tons of fun.  Don't worry about the flight it is so nice to get next to the window and see all the things below you.  I won the Dollar General trip valued at $3750.00 to Denver in August for two people to see Trace Adkins and I took along a friend Who had never flown before either and he was so excited to go on the trip and I made sure he had a window seat and he was so excited to look down below and see all the rivers and things.  Flying back was just as exciting for him also and it was such a privelege to get to carry him on his first flight.  Denver Airport was a task though so huge and we got back to Birmingham Alabama the airport there was like a toy compared to Denver.  But the limousine that they provided us with made things so easy when they picked us up at the airport and were always on call for us.   Enjoy your trip and have fun.  Good Luck to you and keep sweeping.

Here are my tips for flying ~ do your best to get a window seat so you can see the amazing views of the clouds and towns below.  Wear comfy layers.  You can bring snacks in your purse as long as they aren't liquid.  Tell the flight attendant it's your first flight and they will likely be more attentive. 

Also ~ don't try not to freak out by turbulence.  The plane naturally shakes when you hit air pockets.  It can be scary if no one explains it to you but you are completely safe!  It's just the wind.
