www.cnet,download.com  is a great site to get accurate reviews of new software programs and available downloads. They also provide a FREEWARE section of good, FREE programs to download. I refer to the site regularly. These days you can obtain good, spyware free, tested freeware (including anti-virus programs) which work as well--if not just as good as software programs you purchase. (Remember ALL downloads are free---some software is not.)

[A suggestion, don't just download a program that "sounds good." Read the reviews. If you haven't got a need for it, don't waste your time or HD space.]

Yes, I have used that site as well. Don't forget filehippo.com; it provides info as well, and offers an update reminder. I second your caveat about downloading unnecessary software, and cluttering your computer. And, too, some programs don't tolerate others if you have too many anti-spyware programs or multiple firewalls. It's like drug interactions...

 Thanks for sharing the info.  Another I like is MajorGeeks, they are good like Cnet and have a forum that answers tech or software questions..
