    I pass up a lot of sweepstakes because they ask for my date of birth. Due to scams, I do not like to give this information. With your name and date of birth, a lot can be found and used If a sponsor needs to know your age, he/she only needs the year of birth, not the month and day. Am I wrong?

    I have never used my real birthday to enter a sweepstakes just for the reasons you have stated.

    I do and have not had any trouble. If ever a grand prize is won. That is one way they verify you.

     Majority of sweeps ask for date of birth and I don't pass them up. I give my correct birthdate.  I don't have no savings and my networth is almost nothing, so I don't think a scammer will get to much from me.

    I always tell the truth on my DOB. One sweepstakes I enter actually tells you on the form that you must give the true birth date to qualify. I don't worry a bit about telling them and never have a problem with that. I have won a lot of money and prizes doing it too. If you rule out all the ones that ask, you have a slim to none chance of winning anything.

    When I won a grand prize back in June they compared my birthdate on the entry form with what I gave them over the phone.  I would suggest using your correct birthday.  I asked if it mattered and they said yes it does and if the dates did not match it may have disqualified me.

     mesweet, you are talking for me too when you made your statement above, thank you.  The date of birth is necessary to verify that you are the person that entered the sweepstakes so you are passing up sweepstakes on your own.

     i understand the hesitancy to provide certain information in the sweeps.  i always give the right information, and have not had it come back to bite me in the butt.  if you feel uneasy, don't enter.  keep it simple!

    I give the correct DOB.  So far, no problems.

    Entering your date of birth no more opens you up to being a victim of a scam than the mere entering of your name. Then, your phone Number alone allows them to access your location (address to your name, house number, street, city and state). And do you recall, every one of your job applications, Doctor's patient files contain the same information, and that includes your DOB, plus your Social Security No. The only thing entering my birthdate does is to establish that I'm over 18.

    I'm with everyone else.  If someone wants your info badly enough there are plenty of means to get it if the bad guys are persistent enough.  I just try my best to ID possible scams.  There are some tell tale signs the offer is illegal.

    Almost all the sweeps for a grand prize ask for DOB.  Why bother entering at all if you are so afraid?  Your address alone could be enough to find you.
