My boss claims her mother in law sits at the computer mon-fri 8 hours a day entering sweeps and she considers this her full time job. She says she files a tax return every year averaging 50-60k in cash value of prizes won. Do you think this is really true?

 Is it possible?  Sure, I bet there are a few people out there that this is true for.  But, I don't believe everyone that sits in front of the computer all day entering sweeps wins that much.  While I do believe it's a numbers game on some levels and the more you enter the better your odds, I also believe that sometimes it is just the luck of the draw.

This has to be a joke!  All you have to do is look at the list of prizes that some post and I think they spend countless hours doing so.  If you think winning a jar of salsa or a tee shirt is going to provide you a living then you're nuts.  Some people have entered for years without winning anything.  I always feel a little sorry for people getting into this thinking they're going to make tons of money.  They might as well enter the lottery.  It's just not that sure of a thing - you have a chance of winning that's all.

That maybe could of happened 1 year, but for that to happen year after year would be almost impossible.  I enter 1 to 2 hours 5 days a week.  I have won 2 great trips and some smaller stuff. 

Yes, it's true. I have see people on  TV that does this. They are a lot luckier than me if they do that. I enter about 2 hours a day (split times). Most people do it as a hobby. When it becomes work, it would be no longer fun for me.

Could very well be true.  Only large prizes will generate a 1099 for the IRS purposes.  And other prizes could be "supplements" for the home or offset gifting expenses.  Here in Nashville, TN,  there was a Lifestyle Page 1 story of a professioanl woman who is an avid sweeper. She talked of the ins and outs of her "hobby."  Part of her story was her successes - 5 digit winnings annually over several years - including more than $50K in '08.  She claims putting in 3 hours daily - it is her escape after a long day at work as opposed to TV, reading or other hobbies.  I do not think, however, that either sweeper is claiming to being able to "live" off of their winnings.  Each seems to say they have other income streams in their homes.

 This is probably true as I do the same I have won  a little over 50,000 in cash and prizes this year. but I also enter around 1000 contests everyday 7 days a week

where/how do you find 1,000 sweeps?  also, what about duplication of entries?

 Call me skeptical, but I still don't believe it.  Maybe one or two years, but not every year. 

 There are all kinds of sweepstakes to be found on different sites such as sweepswire,luckycontests,online sweepstakessweepstakes advantage and of coursesweepstakes today.Just look at those and you will see where. Good Luck to all!!!!

Seems like an extremely high amount especially if year after year.

I am skeptical, I've been fortunate to have some very nice wins over the last few years, but nothing to equal this braggadocio. Not even author and fellow family member Halogen claimed such extravagant winnings on a continuing basis.

 i don't believe it's true (like most rumors).  give me a name, show me anything, prove it! rumors grow like tumors.......

 it may be one year that she excelled at, but to do that on a consistant basis is highly unlikely.  don't believe everything people post here.
